Newsletter Autumn 2011
At
the AGM in April I was elected Chair of the Goring Residents’ Association. I have spent the time since then working
closely with our hard working committee finding out how our Association
works. There have been changes within
the committee, as we have two new members, Andrew Bates Joyce, and a new
membership secretary Andrew Alexander who has taken up the challenge of this
huge role. I am grateful for the support
from our secretary Sue Parkinson, as well as Angela Nicholson’s continued
dedication to arranging our social functions.
Bob Warner continues as the treasurer and has managed to encourage
Yvonne to join us as the theatre trip organizer. Dorothy Devereux has agreed to take on the role
of outing organizer as John Aldred has now become President of Probus.
I
hope that more of our members will try to attend events from the social
programme. There is always a warm
welcome for anyone wishing to get more involved.
Jan Alexander
Report from the AGM
We presented a
cheque for £113 to the Ferring Country Centre, which was money raised at our
March meeting. The membership agreed
that all proceeds from raffles for the coming year should go to a local charity. The successful charity is KESTRO, the Worthing
Stroke Club. Any profit made from the
quiz evening in November will also be donated to KESTRO.
Our accounts
showed a healthy surplus to our running costs and therefore we asked the
membership to agree to sanction our proposal to return the sum of £1000 back
into the community. This was agreed and
the committee, having considered various suggestions, has decided to offer to
purchase a piece of play equipment for the playground next to the cricket ground
and Bull pub.
Membership
We have produced a
new pack of information for road wardens in order to help current and new
wardens answer questions about the GRA and also to provide contact
details. If you would like to become
more involved with the Association, perhaps by becoming a road warden, please
do contact Andrew Alexander on 240431.
“Coastal Regeneration, South Downs National
Park and the Localism Bill"
A few of us
attended the Worthing Society conference where there were representatives from
the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Secretariat of Coastal Communities
Alliance, Worthing Borough Council and Civic Voice, the national charity for
the civic movement. The Rt. Hon. Tim
Loughton, MP for East Worthing & Shoreham also attended. The Localism Bill, which has yet to complete
its’ passage through Parliament, proposes new freedoms and flexibilities for
local government. It includes new rights
and powers for communities and individuals plus reform to make the planning
system more democratic and more effective, taking into account local peoples’
needs.
You can look at
the Bill in detail at: www.communities.gov.uk/publications

Outings
Our two outings
this year have been the last to be organised by John Aldred and we must thank
John for all the hard work he put in to make them so successful. We enjoyed a lovely day at Hampton Court
Palace in July and are to finish off the year with a trip on the Bluebell
Railway in September. Next year Dorothy
Devereux will take on the role and details of outings for 2012 will be included
in our Spring newsletter. Do let Dorothy
know if there are places you would particularly like to visit.
Theatre Trips
As we reported in
our Spring Newsletter Ruby Guest, who has arranged our trips to the theatre for
many years, had decided to stand down.
We have been fortunate to have found a replacement for Ruby in Yvonne
Warner and we very much hope you will support Yvonne as she looks to continue
to provide entertaining theatre trips.
Contact Yvonne on 539199.
